OK, so my friend Laura is taking part in this WIPMarathon and has persuaded me to join in as she knows what a procrastinator I am and that I work better when there’s some pressure involved at meeting a goal/deadline.
I’m a little late to the game but hopefully that won’t matter too much!
Marathon Goal:
Well, I’m going to set myself the small goal of 500 words a day which equates to 15.5k (because I will still make up the four days I missed). It will be a good way to keep in the habit of writing even just a little bit every day.
Stage of writing:
I am still on the first draft of The Remnant’s Keeper and I thought I would have been about halfway by now but, thanks to my rambly nature, I’m not quite there yet. I’ve just passed 47k overall.
What inspired my current project:
Ummmm…you know what? I forget. I think I saw a dog with two very different coloured eyes and my weird mind just went straight to the idea that maybe the one colour was left over from something else, or belonged to another entity inside it. So I came up with the idea of Remnants first and then the Keepers and everything just kind of rolled from there.
I’ve wanted to work on a sweeping fantasy piece for a while with a big cast and open landscapes and this seemed like the perfect story for that.
What might slow down my marathon goal:
Working full time in a job that sucks my creativity and motivation. And knowing that I have to overhaul a website I run which will take me forever. I have guilt every time I write because I know I should be doing that instead. Ugh.
